Darlene Agee

Darlene Agee of Tigard/SW Portland, Oregon, is a self taught artist best known for her Pyrography (woodburning) and colored pencil wood ornaments. Her work is currently available in Forest Grove at A Framer’s Touch during the Festival of Ornaments. Her pieces bring an element of nature into your home with beautiful renditions of iconic Pacific Northwest landmarks. She is expanding into the larger pieces, still using natural wood discs and planks with a touch of bark. She re-discovered her love of pyrography or woodburning last year and has enjoyed connecting her artwork to her love of the outdoors and our beautiful, natural wilderness in and around the PNW.

Ms. Agee is a former middle school mathematics teacher in the Portland and Tigard areas, since leaving the teaching profession, she keeps busy as a volunteer at a kid’s camp, running their arts and crafts program. She has been interested in arts since childhood while creating alongside her mother as she learned toll painting. Agee goes way back in her artistic endeavors to a young child winning awards in the Smokey the Bear Coloring contest, using crayon and tissue to create a smooth, glossy texture. As a child, her dad taught her some basics of woodburning while helping with a Scout project.

Ms. Agee draws her artistic inspiration from her love of hiking, camping, and photography. Her love of the outdoors started with family camping and hiking in her desert southwest home of New Mexico. Her favorite memories are the many family outings in the Four Corners states along with the hiking and camping trips with Scouts, as a youth. Boy Scouts, while her dad was Scoutmaster for most of her childhood and she considers herself an honorary Scout or troop mascot, and more recently with her son in Scouting. Girl Scouts as a longtime Scout and again as a Troop Leader for her daughter.
