Kendall Hurley

My name is Kendall Hurley and I am an embroidery artist originally from Anchorage, Alaska. I have been working with this medium for over six years now and am very passionate about keeping needlework and textile art alive. Embroidery has been around since humans began sewing, some of the earliest examples come from civilizations in ancient Egypt and China. In a world inundated by a have-it-now mentality, taking the time to sit down and craft with my hands is a practice I find both meditative and exciting. Playing with color and texture has long been my goal, and recently I’ve begun incorporating beadwork into my pieces. There are many things to love about embroidery, but my favorite is that nothing is ever the same, each piece is unique, much like people. Much of my inspiration comes from the natural world, which I credit to growing up in such a beautiful place. As an avid reader, I also enjoy adding a touch of whimsy to my work. You can often find me after work curled up on my couch, needle in hand, listening to whatever movie my partner put on, happily stitching away.
