Arturo Villaseñor

Arturo Villaseñor, born in Mexico City in 1965, is a multifaceted artist and educator. He graduated from the National Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Mathematics. With a passion for restoration, Arturo dedicated several years to preserving the architectural heritage of Mexico City. Notable projects included the restoration of iconic buildings such as the Postal Palace, Guarantees Building, East Portico of the Palace of Fine Arts, The Postal Palace, and the Monument to the Mother. During this time, he had the privilege of working alongside esteemed restoration masters, painters, and skilled craftsmen, honing his expertise in the field.

In 2000, Arturo relocated to Oregon and began his career in adult education and social work. Collaborating closely with the Mexican Consulate, he played a pivotal role in establishing the first “Plaza Comunitaria” in Washington County, providing educational resources and support to the Latino community. Additionally, he served as the coordinator of the Access Technology Program at Centro Cultural, where he empowered individuals through computer literacy and facilitated business training for Latino entrepreneurs.

Alongside his professional endeavors, Arturo continuously nurtured his artistic pursuits. As a poet, professional painter, graphic designer, sculptor, translator, writer, and photographer, he expressed his creativity and enriched his understanding of different artistic disciplines. His artistic journey has been marked by a relentless dedication to sharpening his craft and exploring the diverse realms of artistic expression.

Through his work in both education and the arts, Arturo remains deeply committed to fostering cultural enrichment, empowering individuals, and promoting community engagement. His diverse skill set and unwavering passion make him a respected figure in the Portland Metro area, known for his contributions to nonprofit organizations such as Adelante Mujeres and Centro Cultural of Washington County.

Maureen Zoebelein

I grew up on the East End of Long Island in Wading River, New York. I have
always been involved in some form of art medium. I spent countless hours
roaming the beaches; observing and enjoying the beauty the island had to offer.
Through a lifelong interest in photography, I have collected images that I use as a
reference in my paintings. I am always searching for images that capture the mood
of the places I have traveled, whether it is a dramatic sky, flowers in a field or a
cricket on a board.
During my early schooling I was always involved in art projects. These included
enameling, pottery, collage and drawing. At Suffolk Community College and Buffalo
State College I pursued a degree as a BFA major in printmaking. Moving to
Oregon in the mid 1970’s, I completed my degree in Clothing, Textile and Related
Arts at Oregon State University. I studied textile design, graphic design and
dabbled in basketry, felting, weaving and fabric printing.
Through the years I have also worked with watercolors, colored pencils, pastels
and woodcuts. I found that oils and acrylics allow for a fluid and natural expression
of my art. Painting allows me to capture the world in the way I envision it as an
artist.
Many of my paintings are influenced by the many hours spent hiking, biking,
paddling, cross country skiing, camping in and around the East Coast and Pacific
Northwest. Those experiences supply the imagery that I am drawn to when
painting. Blooms showing off their colors, skies creating drama from above,
animals and birds caught on film, are the images that supply the inspiration for my
paintings.

Nate Marcel

I absolutely love drawing and teaching. I’ve been a drawing instructor at Portland Community College since 2005. I have been drawing with the intention of improvement since as early as I can remember and began painting seriously in 1995. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in drawing, painting and printmaking, and my MFA from Portland State University in 2003. 

Although I work in mixed genres and multiple media my work is always directly anchored in the drawing experience. I have trained as a fine artist and have studied fine arts extensively, including architecture and both modern and ancient sculpture, but the majority of my skills have centered around my first love; illustration. My heaviest influences include Silver Age sequential art, Secession movement artists, The Cubists, 19th Century illustration and art from the Northern Renaissance. My tastes are also eclectic, dipping heavily into the naive well of Outsider, Art Brut and Kitsch culture.

Emily Lux is an artist and educator focusing on the power of community building through art and personal expression. 

 

Her focus is to spread the idea that art belongs everywhere, in multiple forms, and should be accessible to everyone. 

Emily has participated in shows both locally and internationally, provides collaborative venues for local artists to display their work, and serves on the Forest Grove, Oregon Public Arts Commission. Emily’s current primary artforms are community-based public murals, children’s book illustration, sketchbook work, and painting.
